We haven't confirmed this year's application window, and these dates move every cycle — so we won't print one. The official page is the only reliable source. Ask us and we'll track it for you and tell you when it opens.
Eligibility
grants.at is a searchable database of Austrian scholarships rather than one award, and the OeAD programme most Indian applicants are actually eligible for is the Ernst Mach Grant. Its worldwide strand is postgraduate: doctoral candidates enrolled outside Austria, postgraduates and post-docs pursuing an academic career, and lecturers or researchers at a university outside Austria, with an age limit of 35 at the start of the stay. A separate strand funds bachelor's and master's study at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences for students from defined countries of origin, where bachelor's applicants must have completed at least four semesters. One condition catches people out: you must not have lived, studied or worked academically in Austria in the six months before the grant begins.

Each strand has its own window — the worldwide grant is open online from September to 1 December, the University of Applied Sciences strand from October to 1 February. The worldwide grant does not require you to enrol as a regular student, but it does require written confirmation of supervision from an academic at an Austrian university. Securing that supervisor is the real work, and it has to be done before the deadline rather than after an award.
Programme-specific. Confirm the current value on the official page before you apply.
