We haven't confirmed this year's application window, and these dates move every cycle — so we won't print one. The official page is the only reliable source. Ask us and we'll track it for you and tell you when it opens.
Eligibility
Unusually for a German foundation award, this one funds undergraduate study as well: the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung lists first-degree courses (bachelor's, diplomas and state examinations), master's and postgraduate programmes, and doctoral degrees. It is a political foundation aligned with social democracy, and selection weighs demonstrated social and political commitment alongside academic record rather than marks alone — so a strong CGPA on its own is not the profile it is looking for.
Applications are made directly to the foundation rather than through a university, and the deadline is tied to your stage of study — by the end of the first semester for a master's or postgraduate programme, for instance. Short courses of under three semesters, which includes some two-semester master's degrees, are treated separately in the rules, so check which category yours falls into before applying.
Monthly funding subject to rules. Confirm the current value on the official page before you apply.
