HDFC Credila education loan for studying abroad
Credila is an NBFC that does nothing but education loans, and it shows in both directions: it understands an overseas admission file better than a general branch does, and it costs more than a public sector bank.

The trade-off, stated plainly
| An NBFC like Credila | A PSU bank | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Days to a couple of weeks | Weeks, driven by valuation |
| Rate | Higher | Lower |
| Unsecured appetite | Larger | Limited |
| Understands the file | It is the only thing they do | Varies by branch |
| Flexibility on profile | More | Less |
Over a long repayment the rate difference is real money. The honest question is whether the speed and the unsecured limit are worth it for your timeline, and for a student with an August intake and a July offer the answer is often yes.
Who it suits
- Tight timelines, which is the single most common reason families choose an NBFC.
- Limited or no collateral.
- Co-applicant income that is real but awkward to document — business income, rental income, agricultural income.
If you have collateral and three months, get a PSU quote too. The difference across fifteen years is usually larger than families expect when they are focused on the admission deadline in front of them.

Generally yes. An NBFC prices for speed and for a larger unsecured appetite, and over a long repayment that difference is significant.
The indication above is the lender's own. It is materially faster than a PSU scheme, which is the main reason to pay the difference.
