The UK's pitch to Indian students rests on one structural fact: most taught master's degrees finish in twelve months. Everything else — total cost, time out of the workforce, when you start earning — follows from it.
The one-year maths
A two-year master's elsewhere is not simply double the tuition. It is double the rent, double the living costs, and an extra year not earning. A UK master's compresses all of that. The headline tuition figure often looks higher than Germany's or Canada's; the total cost of the qualification frequently does not.
The trade is intensity. A year is a year: dissertation included, with little slack for a failed module or a long job hunt mid-course.
The Graduate Route, and the date that matters
The Graduate Route lets you stay and work after you finish. The length depends on when you apply: two years if you apply by 31 December 2026, and 18 months from 1 January 2027. PhD graduates get three years. That cut-off is a real planning input, not a detail — it is the difference between two years of UK work experience and eighteen months.
Vibedu is a private education consultancy, not a visa authority. Immigration rules change and are decided by the Home Office; confirm the current position on the official UK government pages before you commit to a plan built on it.
What we actually list
We publish 81 programmes across 20 UK universities, 75 of them at master's level. The subjects we hold most of are Computer Science, Business & Management, Data Science and Finance. The cities with the most behind them are London, Coventry, Leeds and Manchester.
That is a curated list, not the whole UK sector, and the counts are read from the catalogue rather than estimated. Start at Masters in the UK to see them.
What it costs
Tuition varies widely by university and subject, and London adds a premium to living costs that is large enough to change which offer is affordable. Rather than quote a range we have not verified against each university's own page, we publish the fee per programme where we have confirmed it, and we leave it blank where we have not. Our cost-of-living comparison sets the UK beside the other destinations.
Entry requirements
Most UK master's programmes work from your bachelor's classification and an English test — IELTS is the most widely accepted, with PTE and TOEFL accepted at many universities. GRE and GMAT are usually not required outside selective business schools. Where a programme wants work experience, it says so.
The score requirement checker shows typical English requirements by course, and the IELTS hub has free practice if you have not sat it yet.
Intakes
September is the main intake, with a smaller January one. UK universities largely operate rolling admissions, which rewards applying early in a way that fixed-deadline systems do not: the same application is stronger in October than in May, because there is more of the course left to fill.
Funding
Chevening is the best-known UK scholarship and is highly competitive. University-level awards are more winnable and far less publicised — many are automatic on a strong profile with no separate application. Our scholarship database lists each with its official link.
The CAS, and why the offer is not the finish line
After you accept an offer and pay a deposit, the university issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies. The CAS is what the visa application is built on, and it has an expiry. The sequence is unconditional offer, then deposit, then CAS, then visa — and each step has a queue. Students who treat the offer letter as the end of the admissions process and the start of a relaxed summer are the ones who arrive late or not at all.
Be ready to answer questions about your course, your funding and your intentions, in your own words. This is a practical reason not to let anybody else write your statement of purpose: you may have to defend it out loud. Our SOP readiness checker is free.
References take longer than you think
UK applications usually want two academic references. Faculty write a great many of these, often at the busiest point in their own term, and a reference requested with a week's notice reads like one. Ask early, give your referee your CV, your statement and the specific course, and make it easy to say something concrete rather than general.
