Singapore is a four-hour flight away, teaches in English, and has two universities that sit inside the global top fifteen. It is also the destination where the published fees behave most differently from everywhere else — and that difference is the thing to understand before you shortlist it.
What we list
We hold 12 programmes across three Singaporean universities, split evenly between bachelor's and master's:
- National University of Singapore — 6 programmes, SGD 21,400–85,000
- Nanyang Technological University — 3 programmes, SGD 56,157–75,210
- James Cook University Singapore — 3 programmes, SGD 34,400
NUS and NTU need little introduction. James Cook Singapore is a branch campus of the Australian university and is the realistic third option: an Australian award, delivered in Singapore, on a 24-month accelerated bachelor's.
The bachelor's costs a quarter of the master's
This is the part that surprises people, and it is worth setting out plainly. At the same university, in the same year:
- NUS Bachelor of Computing in Computer Science — SGD 21,400
- NUS Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical — SGD 21,400
- NUS Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) — SGD 22,200
- NUS MSc in Mechanical Engineering — SGD 52,500
- NUS Master of Computing in AI — SGD 67,144
- NUS MSc in Business Analytics — SGD 85,000
A master's at NUS costs between two and four times its own undergraduate degree. In the UK the two sit within a few thousand pounds of each other; here the gap is the single biggest factor in what Singapore will cost you.
Undergraduate fees in Singapore are published net of government subsidy, and subsidies come with conditions. We have not been able to read the current terms off an official page — the NUS fee schedule is a download and the government's scheme pages were unreachable when we checked — so do not treat the undergraduate figure as unconditional. Ask the university directly what the subsidised rate requires of you after graduation, because the answer has historically involved a multi-year commitment to work in Singapore. That is a real obligation, not a formality.
Business analytics is the most expensive thing on offer
At both universities, the priciest programme we list is the same subject:
- NUS MSc in Business Analytics — SGD 85,000
- NTU MSc in Business Analytics — SGD 75,210
Against NTU's MSc in Communications Engineering at SGD 56,157 and its MSc in Artificial Intelligence at SGD 63,220, that is a premium of roughly SGD 12,000–20,000 for the analytics badge. If your interest is the quantitative work rather than the business framing, the AI and engineering master's teach a great deal of the same material for noticeably less.
Who Singapore actually suits
Three profiles, and it is worth being honest about which you are:
- A strong undergraduate applicant. NUS and NTU admit at a bar comparable to the Russell Group's most selective courses, and the undergraduate fee is genuinely low by international standards. This is the best value in the catalogue if you can get in.
- A master's applicant with a clear Asian career plan. At SGD 52,500–85,000 the fee is UK-level or above, so the case rests on the network and the location rather than the cost.
- Someone who wants an Australian degree closer to home. James Cook Singapore at SGD 34,400 sits between the two, and its 24-month accelerated structure means less living cost than a three-year degree elsewhere.
The limitations worth knowing
The catalogue is small here, and that reflects the country. Singapore has six autonomous universities in total; we hold programmes at three of them. If your subject is not in computing, engineering, business or analytics, there may simply be no Singaporean option that fits.
Living costs are high. Tuition is only part of it — accommodation in Singapore is closer to London than to Kuala Lumpur, and our cost of living pages are the place to check before the fee decides anything.
Admission is the real constraint, not money. For most applicants the question is not whether Singapore is affordable but whether the offer arrives at all. Build the shortlist with that in mind — our profile evaluation gives an honest read on where you stand.
Every fee above is read from the university's own page, with the date we checked it shown on each programme page. If you want help weighing a Singapore offer against a UK or Australian one on total cost rather than tuition alone, our counselling is free.
