Malaysia is the destination students reach for when the budget will not stretch to the UK or Australia, and it is a more serious option than that framing suggests. It is also the one where the question "whose degree is this?" matters most.
Two kinds of university, in one catalogue
We publish 35 programmes across 8 institutions, and they divide cleanly.
Malaysia's own public universities — the University of Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia. These are the national research universities, long-established and internationally ranked.
Private universities and branch campuses — Monash University Malaysia (an Australian branch campus awarding a Monash degree), plus Taylor's University, Sunway University, Asia Pacific University and Multimedia University, which are Malaysian private institutions.
All three groups are legitimate and they are not interchangeable. A Monash Malaysia degree is a Monash degree; a strong Malaysian private university is a good local qualification with a regional reputation; a public research university is something else again. Ask which you are being offered, and what the certificate will say.

The cost case
This is the reason most students look. Tuition and living costs in Malaysia are substantially below the UK, Australia, Canada and the USA, and English is the medium of instruction at most of the institutions above. For a student funding a degree without a loan, or keeping a loan small, that arithmetic is the whole argument.
Kuala Lumpur is the main centre, with Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya adjacent to it. Our cost-of-living comparison puts the numbers beside the alternatives.
The honest limitation
Malaysia's post-study work routes are narrower than Canada's or Australia's, and the graduate job market is smaller. If your plan is a degree and a return to India, or a degree and a move elsewhere in Asia, that is not a problem. If your plan is to settle in the country you study in, Malaysia is a weaker fit than destinations built around that, and you should know it before you apply rather than after.
The subjects we hold most of are Computer Science, Business & Management and Data Science. Full country guide: Study in Malaysia.
