The English bar is higher here than anywhere else we list
This is the finding worth leading with. Of the nine programmes, five ask for IELTS 7.0 and one of those adds a floor of 6.5 in writing and speaking. Only two sit at 6.5.
Set that against Canadian computer science, where the cluster is 6.5 and a single programme reaches 7.0. Same country, same level, a full half-band apart — and a half-band is a retake, six weeks and a test fee. If your band is 6.5 and you are choosing between a management master's and a technical one, the English requirement alone may make that decision for you.
The reason is not mysterious. Business programmes are taught through discussion, presentation and group work in a way a lab-based computing master's is not, so the admissions bar reflects what the classroom actually demands. It is a real requirement rather than a filter for its own sake.
What it costs
Across the eight verified figures the annual tuition runs from CAD 9,958 to CAD 72,774, with a median of CAD 28,618.
The floor is Memorial University of Newfoundland's MSc in Management at CAD 9,958, and Memorial's MBA is CAD 16,833 — both a long way below what most people assume a Canadian business degree costs. The ceiling is the University of Waterloo's Master of Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology at CAD 72,774.
As with computer science, the gap is a product difference rather than a quality ranking. The cheap end is research-style master's at smaller universities; the top is a one-year professional degree built around a venture project and an industry network. Whether that is worth seven times the fee depends entirely on what you want afterwards, and it is a question worth answering before you apply rather than after you are admitted.
Two years for most of them
Five of the nine run 24 months, two run 12, and the bachelor's run 48 and 60. A Canadian business master's is usually a two-year commitment, which is the structural difference from the UK, where the same degree is normally twelve months.
Two years doubles the living costs before tuition is even compared, and for a career-change MBA it also doubles the time out of the labour market. The counterweight is a co-op term, which several Canadian programmes build in and which turns the second year into paid experience rather than pure cost.
Where the 9 are
The five universities are Memorial University of Newfoundland, the University of Manitoba, Thompson Rivers University, Cape Breton University and the University of Waterloo.
Five universities is thin, and worth saying plainly. Canada has far more business schools than this, and our catalogue does not yet reach them — if a specific school is your target, you will be working from its own site rather than from a shortlist we hold. We would rather tell you that now than after a counselling call.
Entry requirements beyond English
Our listings record no academic cut-off for any of these, so we will not quote one. What decides a Canadian business application in practice is work experience: an MBA at most Canadian schools expects two to three years of it, and the professional master's at the top of this list expect a clear reason you want that specific programme. A strong transcript with no work history is a weaker MBA application than a moderate transcript with four years behind it.
The work permit, and the test nobody mentions
Two things about the Post-Graduation Work Permit are widely half-reported.
There is no field-of-study requirement for degree graduates. The restriction introduced for study permit applications from 1 November 2024 applies to college, polytechnic and other non-university programmes. IRCC states that there are no field-of-study requirements for graduates with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree.
There is a language requirement, and it is a different test from the one you took. University degree graduates need CLB 7 in all four abilities, and IRCC's published equivalence puts that at IELTS General Training 6.0 in each — not the Academic test you sat for admission. CELPIP-General 7 and PTE Core are the alternatives.
For this group there is a small mercy: if your programme already demanded IELTS 7.0 Academic, sitting General Training at 6.0 afterwards should not be the obstacle it is for someone admitted at 6.5.
