The reasons Canada student visa applications are refused on the SDS, and what each one is really asking you to demonstrate. A refusal is far more expensive than a delay — it must be disclosed on later applications to several countries.

The reasons, and what each one wants
Purpose of visit not convincing. A clear study plan and reasons for this DLI; show the course fits your background and goals.
Financial capacity doubts. GIC + first-year tuition proof; show stable, well-documented funds.
Weak home ties. Demonstrate reasons to return — family, career prospects, assets.
What a refusal costs you
- It is disclosable. Several countries ask whether you have been refused a visa anywhere, and the answer follows you.
- The fee is not refunded.
- Your intake usually moves, because reapplying properly takes longer than the gap to the course start.
- A second application must explain the first, which is a harder document to write than the original.
That asymmetry is the argument for waiting a cycle when something is not ready. A late application costs you months; a refused one costs you more than that and keeps costing.
If you have already been refused
- Get the refusal notice and read the stated ground carefully — it determines everything that follows.
- Do not reapply immediately with the same file. The same evidence produces the same decision.
- Fix the specific ground, with new evidence rather than a better-worded explanation.
- Address the earlier refusal openly in the new application. Omitting it is far worse than explaining it.
Where a refusal turns on credibility rather than documents, more paperwork rarely helps. What helps is being able to answer, clearly and consistently, why this course, why this country and how it is funded.

Yes. Several countries ask about previous refusals anywhere, so it is disclosable well beyond the country that refused you.
