Next generation electrical power and energy engineers need to understand an increasing amount of different interdisciplinary interactions ranging from enabling technologies to new business models and market structures.Our renewed Master’s Programme in Smart Energy Transition offers students the opportunity to gain excellent capabilities to renew the industry and create future-proof solutions for sustainable and smart energy systems.The programme offers applicants the choice of two majors: Electrical Engineering or Energy Engineering, with 35 dedicated credits (35 ECTS).Both majors follow additional studies in Digitalisation (15 ECTS) and Business Studies (20 ECTS) to provide an integrated and multidisciplinary education ready for industry.The programme also provides a range of elective courses to choose from. These focus on developing strong analytical skills and wide expertise about the key enabling technologies of smart grids, flexible energy systems and future market and business models.The elective subjects cover areas such as battery energy storages, microgrids, energy communities, smart cities, sector-coupling, data-analytics, artificial intelligence, advanced communication technologies and cyber security, power electronic applications, powertrains, power plants, engines, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, renewable and low-carbon fuels.Vaasa is the centrepiece of the Nordic energy sector and therefore offers an excellent location for graduates of the Smart Energy Transition programme who are looking to apply their education in local industry.
