Master of Science in International Economics and Economic Policy

The orientation of the programme is based on the international experience and reputation of the faculty and its strong research expertise in global economic problems, including development cooperation, public finance, international trade, international finance, and international taxation. The programme combines academic rigour with a focus on topical issues faced by administration and policy makers. Frankfurt is one of the leading financial centres in Europe with two central banks. It also hosts the German development agencies GIZ and the KfW (including KfW Development Bank) as well as numerous institutions and private corporations. Thus, Frankfurt provides a vast amount of opportunities for internships and job entry. The programme is structured as follows: There are five fundamental modules (obligatory) that provide the basic tools for advanced courses and thesis work. There are two modules from International Economics and Economic Policy. There are six elective modules, which provide advanced specialised knowledge of various areas. Students choose their electives according to their future career plans. There are two supplementary modules that apply academic theories to real-world problems and are typically taught by practitioners. There is one seminar that encourages students to conduct their own research as a preparation for the Master's thesis. The Master's thesis is a large research project. By writing their theses, students can demonstrate their ability to deal independently with a complex problem.
