About this programme
The great challenges of our time, from information manipulation and algorithmic governance to geopolitical tensions, all have something in common: They are complex societal problems that can only be addressed via multidisciplinary approaches that recognise larger connections between different issues. The Master's Programme in Information Networks combines computer science, social science and organisational studies, providing students with a comprehensive view of how digital technologies and business models reshape societies, institutions and industries. The programme equips students with the skills needed to analyse and navigate the interplay between software systems, organisations and human behaviour. The programme offers a holistic perspective that provides students with a deep understanding of technology and strong problem-solving abilities by combining technical expertise with insight into the organisational and societal systems in which digital technology operates. Students gain a broad skillset in designing systems, services and organisations for the benefit of society, grounded in a solid understanding of research methodology and critical thinking. Upon graduating from the Master’s Programme in Information Networks, graduates will have:Societal perspective on technology. Graduates understand the broader impacts of individual technologies on society – and how societal forces, in turn, shape technological development. They are skilled at translating this understanding into practice: building bridges and fostering collaboration between actors across technology, business, policy making and civil society.Understanding of how technology reshapes businesses. Graduates know how specific computational concepts, technologies and infrastructures, such as algorithms, AI and cloud computing, enable new business models and allow organisations to support the transition toward a more ecologically, economically and socially sustainable society.Ability for critical thinking. Graduates are skilled at reflecting critically on the relationship between technology and society and its implications for technological, organisational and societal development.Socially conscious engineering mindset. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge, tools and skills needed to create societally sustainable and ethically sound technologies, services and organisations.Strong personal and interpersonal skills. Graduates have strong skills to work in teams as well as collaborate with professionals across a wide range of disciplines.
