UK Student Visa Process for Indian Students: Step by Step

The UK Student visa (Tier 4) process explained — CAS, funds, the 28-day rule and IHS — so you apply right and avoid delays.

Step 1 — Get your CAS

After you accept an unconditional offer and pay any deposit, your university issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). You need it before you can apply for the Student visa.

Step 2 — Prepare your funds (the 28-day rule)

You must show funds covering tuition plus living costs, held in an eligible account for at least 28 consecutive days before you apply, with the closing balance dated within 31 days of application. See our proof of funds guide.

Step 3 — Pay the IHS and visa fee

Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (which gives you NHS access) and the visa fee as part of the online application.

Step 4 — Apply, biometrics and documents

Complete the online form, book a biometrics appointment, and submit your CAS, passport, financial evidence, English test and academic documents. Some students may need TB testing and an interview.
