What is the subclass 500 visa?

The subclass 500 is Australia’s student visa. It lets you study a registered course full-time, work part-time, and stay for the duration of your program.

Get your CoE first

After you accept an offer and pay the deposit, your university issues a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) — you need it to apply for the visa.

The GTE statement

The Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement is central to your application. It explains why you chose this course and university, your ties to India, and your plans — showing you’re a genuine student. A weak GTE is a common refusal reason.

Funds, health and English

You’ll need evidence of funds for tuition and living costs, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), and an accepted English score (usually IELTS 6.0–6.5). See our proof of funds guide.
