Type first, replay to check
- Listen to the whole sentence on the first play without typing.
- Type what you have immediately afterwards.
- Use a replay to fill the gaps, not to start again.
- Use a final replay to check the words you were unsure of.
Candidates who type during the first play usually capture the opening accurately and lose the end. Listening whole and then typing captures more.
Spelling and function words
- Spelling is scored. This item feeds the writing side of your score as well as listening.
- Articles and prepositions — a, the, of, in — are unstressed and easy to drop. They count.
- Plural and past-tense endings carry grammar and are the first casualty of fast speech.
Partial credit applies, so a sentence recovered most of the way still scores. Never submit an empty box.
